Today I attended the Foxtel Showcase Launch Event at the Dendy in Circular key with a few members of the AdNews team.
At the event, Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany announced that the leading streaming company will be launching Fox Showcase - a drama destination that will house both Foxtel content as well as HBO and FX programming. The new streaming channel will include all of Foxtel's drama programming including Fox original series and deals with the US cable networks.
Delany told of a need for a strong entertainment sector on the otherwise primarily sports-driven platform when competing in this new digital age.
At the event, Delany told invited agencies and media partners that Fox Showcase would mark the par-to provider as "the gold standard" by which all other premium content platforms are compared, in a means to bid advertisers to support the new streaming channel.
What was most interesting about the event is that the attendees were primarily members from advertising agencies and media organisations - thus the launch was entirely a means of gaining somewhat sponsorship. For me, this was a first discovery of such an occurrence and really shed light on the way the industry is structured and represented.
The Event itself was by all means impressive and exciting with first-account previews of up-and-coming series and brief speeches by the actors of such series.
At the event I also had the pleasure of meeting several leading members of the industry, and asked them about their roles and how they got to where they are.
I will be interested in seeing what agencies invest in Foxtel as a medium for their future campaigns as a result of this showcase.
